The Moscow International Travel & Tourism exhibition (MITT) is recognised as one of the world’s top five trade events for the travel industry. 2010 will be the 17th edition of the exhibition and the official partner country of MITT 2010 has recently been confirmed as Greece.
Greece has become the third successive partner country after Turkey in 2008 and Dubai in 2009. The status is in addition to the 1600m² of exhibition space booked by the Greek National Tourism Organisation and ensures wide ranging exposure for the country as a tourism destination in the sought-after Russian market.
MITT hosts around 3,000 companies from 150 countries and attracts an attendance in excess of 80,000. International travel continues to be very popular amongst Russia’s growing middle-classes and Russian tourists are well known as being relatively high-spenders. It is consequently, a lucrative growth market with opportunities for a huge variety of companies in the global travel industry.
MITT 2009 was attended by Greece’s Tourist Development Minister, Costas Markopoulosv. At the event, he said “Russia is a big market. Thousands of Russians visit Greece and there is a big opportunity for more, so our presence at MITT has great value. It is an opportunity for cooperation, for commercialisation and for negotiation.”
International Event Manager Zeljka Tomljenovic has high hopes for Greece’s tourism industry as a result of their decision to become a partner destination. “Last year, the Executive Director of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing of the Government of Dubai, Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, said that the country’s increased exposure at MITT helped to generate 15% more tourists from Russia and CIS. This is an excellent result and I hope that Greece’s enhanced participation in MITT 2010 will prove just as effective.”
The 17th edition of the MITT (Moscow International Travel & Tourism) exhibition will take place on 17-20 March 2010 at Moscow’s best known exhibition centre, Expocentre.
